how i'm chasing whimsy this week
Hello whimsy chasers. I received some jarring news last week. A mole removed during a routine skin check turned out to be a melanoma. Thankfully, because of that diligent check, we caught it extremely early. Still, if you know me or have been reading my work for a while, you know that word holds a massive amount of baggage for me: my mom died eight years ago from metastatic melanoma, and I am a cancer survivor myself.
When the news hit, I gave myself exactly twelve hours to sit in the heavy feelings. I cried. I did some retail therapy. I watched a romcom show with my bestie. I talked to my sister. Then, I moved on. Today, I’m heading in to get the rest of the area excised to be safe (this is your reminder to get your skin checked!!! and wear spf!!! should I do a post on my favorite spf??)
But let me be clear: this is absolutely not stopping the whimsy. If anything, whimsy is a non-negotiable requirement this week. It is the counterweight to the heavy stuff, the stubborn proof of life.
To that end, here is the magic, light, and delight I am cultivating right now:
Pouring my coffee creamer from a cow vessel.
Baking birthday cookies for my husbands, sprinkles and all.
Starting a summer knitting project.
Hosting a Warped Tour themed Bunco night.
Admiring my blooming garden.
A Reminder: I’m going to wrap up my weekly Wednesday posts at the end of May (one more to go) to make room for something different. Six months of whimsy! Not too shabby. Thanks for following along.
