whimsy wednesday: march 6
how i'm chasing whimsy this week.
Can you believe our whimsy has carried us all the way to May already? I really can’t. January feels like it was just a mood ago, soft and tentative, and somehow here we are with longer days and lighter sleeves. I’ve been living inside a small, shimmering devotion to delight: pulling tarot cards not for answers, exactly, but for atmosphere, sniffing jasmine on my walks like it’s a secret meant just for me, crafting up a storm simply because my hands asked to be busy. For five months now, I’ve been letting whimsy lead. Or at least walk beside me.
It hasn’t been loud or dramatic. More like a quiet texture layered under everything else, an intentional softness in a world that so often demands sharp edges. Whimsy has shown up in tiny rituals and half-moments: choosing the prettier mug, lighting a candle at noon, following a curiosity down a side street instead of sticking to the most efficient route. It’s been a practice of attention, really. Of noticing what feels good, what feels alive, and letting myself linger there without needing to justify it.
And maybe that’s the most surprising part: how sustaining it’s been. Whimsy, it turns out, isn’t frivolous. It’s a way of staying porous to joy, of remembering that magic doesn’t only arrive with grand declarations, it sneaks in through scent and color and intuition. As spring opens everything up again, I’m realizing I don’t want to rush past this feeling. I want to keep making room for it. To see how far it might carry us next.
Here are some whimsical musings for this week:
Stopping immediately when I see a strawberry stand and buying a flat of them with no game plan.
Wearing a skincare and makeup crown instead of a headband (saw someone on IG do this and am immediately stealing the idea).
Making myself a full afternoon tea service complete with a pot of tea and snacks in the afternoon.
Beginning my summer personal curriculum!
Starting a new bread themed puzzle.
What are you looking forward to the rest of this week?
