the artist date syllabus
field-tested outings for the observant artist
This was the year I finally completed Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way after so many stops and starts (read my main takeaways here). And the first thing I did when I started week one was write a huge list of ideas for artist dates. I didn’t want to be stuck grasping for ideas last minute.
If you are anything like me, you might need some inspiration for planning your artist dates. I got you. Here is a non-exhaustive list of ideas for your artist dates:
Field Work
The Color Walk: Pick one shade and document every time you see it in the wild.
The Park Sketch: Visit a local landmark and sketch what you see (no matter your skill level).
The Grocery Flâneur: Wander the aisles for a new-to-you pasta shape to make for dinner.
The U-Pick Excursion: Find a flower farm and spend an hour among the blooms.
The Museum Solo: Spend a quiet afternoon at a local art gallery or museum.
The Cinematic Escape: Go to a movie alone and get a large popcorn with candy.
